Anna Halprin with Dohee Lee: Dance the RSVP Cycle Workshop

February 28, 2016 @ 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

“The RSVP cycles designed by Lawrence Halprin is a process in generating creativity in others. We will be experiencing this process as it relates to dance.”—Anna Halprin

American dance pioneer Anna Halprin leads a workshop in collaboration with Dohee Lee on the principles of scoring, the “science that creates art.” Halprin developed this creative methodology with her husband, architect Lawrence Halprin. All are welcome. No previous dance training necessary.

Anna Halprin has helped redefine our notion of modern art with her belief in dance as power to teach, heal, and transform at all ages of life. Halprin performed the iconic Parades and Changes at the 1970 opening of the BAMPFA building on Bancroft Way. Now, at the age of ninety-five, she is participating in the opening of the new BAMPFA.

Dohee Lee is a recipient of the Doris Duke Impact Award, Creative Capital Award, Isadora Duncan Dance Special Award, and an honorary fellowship of The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and Gerbode and Hewlett Foundations. Born on Jeju Island in South Korea, she learned Korean dance, percussion, and vocals rooted in shamanism. Her art now focuses on integrating these traditional ritual forms with contemporary elements.
